We carry cargo to the islands around Great Britain and Ireland: the Isle of Man, Shetland, Orkney (Kirkwall), the Outer and Inner Hebrides (North Uist, Rum, Skye) and the Channel Islands (Jersey, Guernsey). Each island has different ferry logistics and a different customs status — we match the route and documents to the specific destination.
The island customs status sets the procedure
- Isle of Man — a customs and VAT union with the UK: no clearance relative to Great Britain, UK VAT applies. Logistically like GB plus a ferry (Heysham, Liverpool).
- Scottish islands (Shetland, Orkney/Kirkwall, Hebrides — North Uist, Rum, Skye) — part of Great Britain: post-Brexit clearance as for GB, delivery by ferry (NorthLink, CalMac).
- Channel Islands (Jersey, Guernsey) — in the customs union with the UK (no duty), but outside the UK VAT area: UK export zero-rated, Jersey applies GST, commercial goods clear customs on the island.
How we run island deliveries
- LTL groupage from 1 pallet and full FTL loads, both ways.
- A buffer at the Milton Keynes warehouse: a full vehicle from Poland, then delivery to the island for the ferry sailing.
- Clearance and documents matched to the status of each island.
We cover the detail in per-island guides (see the knowledge base) and in the customs clearance section; the full scope of carriage is in services.
