London trade shows are hosted mainly by two venues: ExCeL London in the east of the city and Olympia London in Kensington in the west. Delivering exhibits into the city means aligning venue slots with low emission zones and traffic restrictions, which is why final delivery by a smaller vehicle from our Milton Keynes buffer warehouse often works best.
ExCeL and Olympia — two different delivery worlds
We have separate guides for both venues: transport to ExCeL London and transport to Olympia London. ExCeL sits in east London, in the former docks area; Olympia is a venue in the dense streets of Kensington, where unloading windows and access logistics are tighter. In both cases build-up slots are booked with the organiser or the venue operator, with bookings that follow the venue rules.
Taking a truck into central London
London operates low emission zones: the LEZ covering heavy vehicles across the city and the ULEZ for a wide group of vehicles. A vehicle must meet the emission standards or pay charges — we check the rules and current requirements before every departure and build them into the delivery plan. On top of that come the traffic and stopping restrictions typical of a large city: narrow unloading windows, streets closed to entry and time limits at the dock. All of this is planned in advance, not "on the spot".
The Milton Keynes buffer: big vehicle to the warehouse, small one into the city
A proven delivery pattern for London shows looks like this: the freight travels from Poland on a full vehicle to our Milton Keynes warehouse, waits there safely until the right day, and we deliver it to the venue by a smaller vehicle exactly in the build-up slot. You gain flexibility (the goods are already in the UK, customs cleared), easier zone access and a lower risk of missing the unloading window. The same buffer works the other way at breakdown, when the venue must be vacated quickly and the return to Poland can wait for a consolidated load.
Venue slots and planning the delivery day
- A build-up slot booked with the organiser — a delivery outside the slot may not be accepted.
- Vehicle and driver notification per the venue rules.
- A time buffer for the drive across the city — congestion and restrictions are the norm, not the exception.
- Customs documents closed before delivery: an ATA carnet or import clearance, ENS and GMR for the crossing.
The complete trade fair plan is described in the exhibition logistics hub. Preparing a stand for ExCeL or Olympia? Write to us — send the event, the dates and the load list, and we will propose a delivery variant: direct from Poland or via the Milton Keynes buffer.
