The Centennial Hall at Wystawowa 1 in Wroclaw is run by the municipal company Wroclawskie Przedsiebiorstwo Hala Ludowa and has been on the UNESCO World Heritage List since 2006. The venue publishes a floor loading of 1,500 kg per square metre, which it says allows cars and large-format stands to be driven in, a flat concrete floor, service doors of 4.33 by 4.20 metres and 4.29 by 4.20 metres, and a maximum vehicle size of 2.9 by 3.2 metres.
The figures the venue publishes
The Centennial Hall is among the few Polish venues that publish everything needed to plan an entry.
- The main floor of the hall offers 4,370 sqm with a span of up to 95 metres, 20 metres to the ring beam and 42 metres to the apex of the dome.
- The perimeter concourse offers 2,700 sqm, of which 1,620 sqm is exhibition space, with circulation routes up to 3 metres wide; the floor is flat and the space is lit by roof lights.
- The service doors into the concourse measure 4.33 by 4.20 metres and 4.29 by 4.20 metres.
- The maximum size of a vehicle driven inside is 2.9 by 3.2 metres.
- Onto the Pergola, the outdoor area of around 4,000 sqm, cars are admitted at a height of 355 centimetres and a width of 450 centimetres.
The last figure is the one most often confused. The door is 4.33 metres, but the maximum vehicle size is 2.9 metres wide and 3.2 metres high. The difference comes from the internal route and the turning circle, not from the opening. It is the same mechanism we describe in the article on venue access limits: a door dimension is an upper bound, not an invitation.
The complex is not everything standing beside it
The operator defines the Centennial Hall complex as the hall itself, the Wroclaw Congress Centre, the Pergola with its fountain, and the square below the spire, 2,838 sqm on a hard surface. The neighbouring Four Domes Pavilion does not belong to that complex: since 2016 it has housed a museum of contemporary art, a branch of the national museum, and is not exhibition space for hire.
That distinction matters in practice. An order naming "the pavilion" without further description sends a driver to a different manager with a different access regime. So the order carries the venue name together with the Wystawowa street address and the room name. Inside the complex the choice of room is not neutral either: the Congress Centre has a multi-purpose hall of 694 sqm, an auditorium of 989 seats, an Imperial Hall of 300 sqm at 7.34 metres high and conference rooms 2.6 metres high. That last figure rules out a tall display whatever the floor area.
The restriction that actually stops a lorry
Counter-intuitively it is not the UNESCO status. The operator describes the 2006 inscription and its criteria but publishes no access restrictions arising from heritage protection. The real constraint is the city weight zones.
Wroclaw operates three zones based on gross vehicle weight: above 18 tonnes, above 12 tonnes, and from 9 to 12 tonnes. Vehicles above 18 tonnes may enter without a permit only within time windows, and the permit is issued free of charge by the municipal engineering department. The zone above 12 tonnes also runs on time windows. For the 9 to 12 tonne band, movement runs along designated corridors provided the purpose of the journey in the zone is documented, and the city states that no exemption from the 9 and 12 tonne signs is available. Through traffic is directed onto the motorway ring around the city.
Whether Wystawowa street and the immediate surroundings of the hall fall inside a weight zone has to be checked on the city traffic map or directly with the roads authority, because the list of boundary streets the city publishes does not name it. This is not a formality: the answer decides not only the route but the hour at which a vehicle can approach at all. Wroclaw has no clean transport zone
Clean transport zones are a separate matter, based on emission standards rather than weight. Wroclaw operates none; the city suspended work on it. In Poland such zones run in Warsaw and Krakow, and among the Silesian cities Katowice has established one. For a delivery to the Centennial Hall what counts is therefore the weight of the vehicle and the hour, not its emission standard.
What to settle before arrival
- The room name: the main floor, the concourse or a room in the Congress Centre.
- Whether the load is driven in or carried in, against the 2.9 by 3.2 metre vehicle limit.
- The gross weight of the vehicle against the Wroclaw weight zones and their time windows.
- Whether the nominated address needs a permit and who obtains it.
- The point loading of the heaviest item against the 1,500 kg per square metre floor.
- Access to the car park and where the vehicle waits after unloading.
What we do at our end

Groupage or a dedicated vehicle
The threshold runs at roughly a third of a trailer, about twelve pallets, but at this venue something else decides. With a maximum vehicle size inside of 2.9 by 3.2 metres and city weight zones limiting mass and hour, a smaller vehicle is often the only one that will actually reach the door at the right time.
