We handle freight from Finland to the UK by consolidation via Poland: goods arrive at our hub, join groupage from Poland and neighbouring countries, and leave for the UK in one truck with full customs handling. The approach from Finland runs by ferry to Estonia and down the Via Baltica, or by a longer Baltic crossing.
Two ways from Finland to the Polish hub
Finland has no land link with the rest of the EU suitable for regular westbound truck traffic, so every option starts at sea. The first is the short crossing of the Gulf of Finland, from Helsinki to Tallinn, served by ferries that carry full truck and trailer sets. From there route E67, the Via Baltica, runs through Riga and Kaunas into Poland; the Tallinn to Warsaw leg is roughly 970 km of road. The second option is a longer freight crossing of the Baltic, from Finnish ports directly to Poland or northern Germany. The choice depends on the pickup point in Finland, ferry space and whether the priority is the deadline or the cost.
What happens at the hub
- Goods in and check: package count, weight, pallet condition, consistency with the documents.
- Consolidation: the Finnish pallets join freight from Poland, Czechia, Slovakia, Austria and Hungary heading the same way.
- Customs handling: the export declaration and the full set of border references for the UK crossing, arranged as part of the carriage.
- Departure to the UK in one truck, with one set of border formalities for the whole vehicle.
Why not a dedicated truck from Finland
A dedicated vehicle across the whole Finland to England route makes sense with a full load or a very tight deadline. With a few pallets you would pay for space you do not use and for ferry crossings of the entire set. In consolidation the cost of ferries, road legs and clearance is shared between many consignors. We break down the difference between a full load and groupage in FTL or LTL.
Transit time: orientation only
The total time depends on the pickup point in Finland, the chosen crossing, Baltic weather and the departure date of the consolidated truck from Poland. That is why we quote transit times with a specific offer, not from a table. As a rule of thumb: the run to the hub and the UK leg are two separate stages and both deserve a margin, especially in winter, when storms can shift sailings.
Documents from the consignor
We need the commercial invoice, the packing list, the EORI numbers of the parties and origin information if the goods are to use the zero tariff under the EU and UK agreement. The rest, including declarations and border formalities, we handle as part of the carriage. The full set is described in our article on documents for export to the UK.
