We move cargo from Finland to the United Kingdom and Ireland through our Polish hub: LTL groupage from 1 pallet and full FTL loads. Freight sails by ro-ro ferry from Finland to Poland or travels overland through the Baltics, is consolidated and cleared in Poland, then joins our regular flow to the UK.
How consolidation from Finland via Poland works
The Finnish leg goes by sea or by land. Finnlines runs a regular ro-ro line between Gdynia and the Finnish port of Hanko, which brings a trailer or the goods themselves straight to Poland. The alternative is a Helsinki-Tallinn ferry and the Via Baltica road corridor through Estonia, Latvia and Lithuania. The choice depends on the deadline, the cargo and conditions on the route.
At the Polish hub (Kielce or Legnica) the cargo is cross-docked and combined with other shipments heading the same way. This is where we prepare the export declaration and the UK import entry, both included in the price of carriage. Final delivery is supported by our Milton Keynes warehouse, which also serves Ireland and Northern Ireland.
What we carry to and from Finland
- LTL groupage from 1 pallet, including consolidation with goods from PL, CZ and SK
- Full truckload FTL when one vehicle from ramp to ramp matters
- Industrial goods, components, electronics, equipment and consumer products
- Return direction: cargo from the UK to Finland over the same route network
Documents and customs
Finland and Poland are both in the EU, so there is no clearance on the FI-PL leg. Formalities start at the UK border: an export declaration, a UK import entry and a GMR in the GVMS system. We prepare them from the invoice and packing list before the truck reaches the port. Details are covered under customs clearance.
