We run transport to the Isle of Man from Poland via Great Britain: clearance happens only on entry to the UK (post-Brexit), and onward to the Isle of Man the goods travel with no further clearance — the Isle of Man forms a customs and VAT union with the United Kingdom. We deliver to the island by ferry from Heysham or Liverpool, as groupage from 1 pallet or a full load.
Customs status: the Isle of Man like Great Britain
The Isle of Man is not part of the UK, but under the Customs and Excise Agreement it forms a common customs, excise and VAT area with the United Kingdom. In practice, for transport this means:
- import clearance takes place on entry to Great Britain, as for any delivery to GB (ENS, GMR, import documents);
- movement of goods GB ↔ Isle of Man is not treated as export/import — there is no second clearance;
- UK VAT applies at the UK rate, not a separate island tax.
How we deliver to the island
A proven pattern: a full vehicle travels from Poland to our Milton Keynes warehouse, the load waits there for the sailing, and we deliver it to the Isle of Man for a specific ferry from Heysham or Liverpool. For one to a few pallets LTL groupage is the most economical; for a larger volume, a whole vehicle. We run the post-Brexit clearance within the order, covered in the customs clearance section.
The Isle of Man versus other islands
The Isle of Man has the simplest status of all the islands around the UK — no additional clearance and UK VAT. It is different for Jersey and Guernsey (outside the UK VAT area) and for the Scottish islands. An overview of all island destinations is in the Islands direction.
