We deliver loads from Poland to Nottingham, Derby and Leicester: goods for distribution centres, industrial components and trade shipments. The East Midlands sits in the centre of England on the M1, under ninety minutes from our Milton Keynes warehouse, so groupage usually arrives within 2 working days of loading. None of the three cities charges trucks for entry.
Why is the East Midlands a distribution heartland?
Because from here a truck reaches the large majority of the British population within four hours. Vast warehouse parks have grown along the M1 and around the airport, led by East Midlands Gateway, where warehouses sit next to a rail terminal and the cargo apron. A large share of our deliveries in the region are exactly that: retail and e-commerce distribution centre ramps, with slot booking and full document discipline. We devote a separate article to RDC deliveries in the Golden Triangle.
What do we carry to Nottingham, Derby and Leicester?
Each of the three cities has its own profile. Derby means aerospace, rail and automotive: production components, spare parts and tooling travel there, often against factory slots. Leicester means textiles, clothing and food processing: we deliver fabrics, trims and packaging, and collect finished goods. Nottingham combines services, science and retail: fit-out, equipment, shop stock. The common denominator is e-commerce, because fulfilment warehouses are denser here than anywhere else in England; deliveries into the Amazon network are covered by our Amazon UK deliveries service.
How does cargo work at East Midlands Airport?
East Midlands Airport is the UK's main overnight express freight hub: the big courier integrators operate from here, and sorting centres and warehouses have grown around the runway. For clients this means two things. First, we plan deliveries to companies near the airport outside the night peak, when access roads are congested. Second, the region works well as a transhipment point: goods from Poland arrive by truck at a warehouse near EMA and continue into the receiver's distribution network.
What does delivery look like, groupage versus FTL?
Single pallets travel as groupage LTL through our Milton Keynes warehouse, which sits right on the route to the East Midlands: that shortens the final leg and lets us buffer goods before a slot. Full FTL vehicles run from Poland straight to the unloading point. With several receivers in the region we combine drops into one multi-stop route: Leicester, Nottingham and Derby lie 30-50 minutes apart.
Are there low emission zones in the region?
None of the three cities runs a charging zone for heavy goods vehicles. Nottingham levies a workplace parking charge on employers, but that is a tax on local firms and does not affect delivery vehicles passing through. Neighbouring Birmingham has a Class D CAZ; if your deliveries also reach the West Midlands, read our article on transport to Birmingham and the Midlands.
Just-in-time deliveries to Derby plants
Derby's aerospace and automotive industry works to a rhythm in which a component must be on the line at a specific hour, not on a specific day. For transport from Poland that means two things: a booked factory slot with entry control, and zero tolerance for surprises off the international leg. We solve it with a buffer: components arrive at our warehouse a day earlier, and the plant is served by a short, predictable domestic leg. For regular series we set fixed loading days in Poland, so the receiver plans production around a known delivery rhythm rather than around individual orders.
Return loads from the East Midlands
A region that receives this much ships just as much. From Leicester we collect textiles and finished goods, from Derby machined components, from the warehouses around the airport goods distributed to Central Europe. The truck returning to Poland takes these loads on the way back, and our consolidation through Poland carries them onward to Czechia, Slovakia, Austria and Hungary. For both sides that is cheaper than separate jobs each way; just declare both streams in one enquiry through the quote form.
