Alderney is the northernmost island of the Bailiwick of Guernsey. Does Alderney have the same customs status as Guernsey?
Yes — Alderney is part of the Bailiwick of Guernsey and falls under its customs regime. In practice that means a delivery from the United Kingdom to Alderney moves within the customs union, while goods brought in from outside it require an import declaration on the bailiwick side. Does UK VAT apply to a delivery to Alderney?
The Channel Islands lie outside the UK VAT area. That distinction has direct commercial consequences and therefore has to be agreed with the shipper before dispatch, not afterwards. Guernsey — and so Alderney — does not currently levy its own goods and services tax; Jersey is different, because GST applies there. How do goods get from Guernsey to Alderney?
The main freight link between the Channel Islands and England is worked by the operator long known as Condor Ferries, now trading as Brittany Ferries Channel Islands following the rebrand announced in 2024 and rolled out from 2025. Alderney, however, is not a principal port of that network: goods reach it after an additional sea leg, on a smaller vessel and in smaller consignments. Can a pallet be delivered without being rebuilt?
For a delivery to Guernsey itself, usually yes. For Alderney you should assume the pallet will be split or carried piece by piece, because the smaller vessel and smaller handling equipment set the limit. Hence the practical advice: break Alderney cargo into pieces of sensible weight, label each separately and secure them as though they will be moved by hand. Documents: what to prepare before dispatch
A shipment from Poland to Alderney combines two procedures: export from the European Union and entry into the customs territory in which the bailiwick sits. So you need a complete commercial invoice describing the goods and their value, a packing list that matches reality, consignee details with a full island address, and the correct tariff classification.
