From 1 July 2026 light commercial vehicles with a gross weight over 2.5 up to 3.5 tonnes, used for paid international carriage of goods, must have a tachograph (a second-generation smart tachograph — Smart Tacho G2V2) and are subject to driver working-time rules. This is a change from the EU Mobility Package. Our vans comply with the new rules — we keep running expresses on the Poland ⇄ UK route, lawfully.
What changes and who is affected
The obligation covers vehicles and vehicle combinations (van plus trailer) with a gross weight over 2.5 t up to 3.5 t in paid international carriage and cabotage. Drivers of such vans are subject to, among others:
- the tachograph obligation (Smart Tacho G2V2) and a driver card;
- rules on driving time, breaks and rest;
- Mobility Package requirements (including returns to base).
What it means for your shipments
Nothing bad — on the contrary, it tidies up the market. Our van fleet is prepared for the new requirements, so express transport and time-critical deliveries continue without interruption. We plan routes taking driver working time into account, and for genuinely urgent orders we combine this with multi-vehicle express to meet the deadline within the rules.
The own-account exemption
The rules provide an exemption for own-account transport (goods belonging to the company, not for third parties). As a hire-and-reward carrier we are subject to the full requirements, which is why our vehicles have tachographs — a guarantee of legality and service continuity.
