Drivers hours (561/2006) and delivery times

How Regulation 561/2006 governs driving time, breaks and rest, and how it shapes Poland-UK transit times.

Regulation (EC) No 561/2006 governs drivers driving time, breaks and rest. Daily driving time is 9 hours, and may be extended to 10 hours twice a week. After 4.5 hours of driving a 45 minute break is required. This effectively sets the transit time on the Poland-UK route.

Key limits

  • Daily driving time of 9 h, up to 10 h twice a week.
  • A 45 minute break after 4.5 h of driving, which may be split into 15 and 30 min.
  • Daily rest of 11 h, reduced to 9 h up to three times between weekly rests.
  • Weekly driving time up to 56 h, and fortnightly up to 90 h.
  • The tachograph records the driver activities.
Tachograph is an on-board device that records the driver driving time, breaks and rest for checking compliance with Regulation 561/2006.
