From Poznan and Wielkopolska we carry mainly furniture and household appliances to England, which is what the region is known for. We collect at the manufacturer, consolidate the consignments and head west on the A2 motorway. Groupage from a single pallet, full loads for larger volumes, clearance on both sides handled inside the job.
A region that manufactures for export
Wielkopolska is Poland's largest furniture region, with roots in the Swarzedz joinery workshops and hundreds of active plants: from family workshops to factories producing solely for foreign markets. Household appliance manufacturing and food processing are strong too. Much of that output travels west, and British buyers, from furniture chains to private customers, are a constant destination. For us that means daily collections in Poznan, Swarzedz, Kepno, Kalisz and smaller manufacturing towns.
Furniture is not a standard pallet
- Cube rather than weight: pricing follows dimensions, explained in pallets and loading metres.
- Packaging: cartons, edge protectors and bubble wrap on fronts, interleaving between parts; we stack only what the manufacturer allows.
- Oversized parts and awkward shapes are handled as described in furniture and oversized goods from one piece.
- Appliances travel in factory packaging, on pallets, strapped and with nothing loaded on top.
Upholstered furniture: mind the market requirements
Upholstered furniture placed on the British market is subject to separate flammability and labelling requirements. That is not a transport matter, but it decides whether the delivery will be accepted. It is worth settling with the importer before the first shipment rather than after a rejected delivery. Route and consolidation
The A2 runs west from Poznan, and from southern Wielkopolska the S5, S8 and S11 feed the main corridors. Collections from the region join our consolidation network: depending on the day's routes the goods pass through transhipment in Legnica or the hub in Kielce and leave on a line-haul vehicle for the crossing. On full loads consolidation is unnecessary: the trailer loads at the manufacturer and runs straight to the receiver. Which option pays when is compared in FTL or LTL.
Delivery on the British side
Furniture often goes to shops and warehouses working to goods-in windows, and for deliveries to private customers kerbside delivery is the standard, without carrying inside. On larger volumes we use a buffer at our Milton Keynes warehouse: the goods wait in the UK and go out to receivers on agreed dates, which shortens the time from order to delivery and lets one vehicle serve several addresses. Addresses without a dock are served by tail-lift vehicles, described in tail-lift deliveries.
What to include in a first enquiry
- The collection point and the working hours of the manufacturer's warehouse.
- Dimensions and weight of the largest items and the total number of units.
- Whether the goods can be stacked, and to what extent.
- The English delivery address with postcode and its receiving requirements.
- Whether this is a one-off or intended as a regular flow.
