GVMS (Goods Vehicle Movement Service) is the UK goods movement control system based on pre-lodgement. It ties earlier declarations (export, import, transit) into one GMR (Goods Movement Reference) the driver uses at the crossing. Without a valid GMR the carrier cannot board the ferry or the Eurotunnel.
How it works
- Pre-lodgement: declarations are filed before arrival at the border.
- The GMR ties declaration numbers (e.g. MRN) into one number per crossing.
- The carrier creates the GMR from data supplied by the sender or agency.
- The driver presents the GMR at the crossing to board the ferry or Eurotunnel.
General information, not advice. At OPTIMUS TRANSPORT we create the GMR as part of the UK haul. See customs clearance and destinations.
